Adam's Touch

THE FIRST POST

Well everyone, this is it. After three full years working towards a journalism degree at Carleton University I finally decided that it was time to get myself a blog. When I was first coming up with ideas for what I wanted my site to be about, I decided that I didn’t want it to be just a golf blog, or just a sports blog, or just a style blog. I wanted to try to incorporate a lot of my passions and interests into it.

After a pretty extensive name search, I finally decided on “Adam’s Touch” after the famous Michelangelo painting The Creation of Adam, because, well, my name is Adam, and I wanted to put my own touch on things here. Viola, a blog was born.

There are many people I want to thank before we get started. First and foremost I must give a big thank you to my good friend Jeff Close, who finally persuaded me to start a website and gave me the know-how on where to go and what do to. Oh yeah, he also has a pretty good website himself, and is one hell of a photographer. Check out his site (www.thisisjeff.ca) for some great photographs and also to get in touch with him to try to give your own website a little refresh.

In my blog roll you’ll also see a list of people that have had an input on my site, whether they know it or not. Jason Sobel, Glenn O’Brien, and Bob Weeks are a handful of guys whose work I love and follow pretty intently. They give me a lot of inspiration for my own work, and without sounding creepy, are a handful of guys whose job I would love to have. Patricia Hannigan (the Golf Girl) gave me some great advice on starting a golf blog, and Scott Macleod from Flagstick Magazine has been an awesome new contact here in Ottawa. Finally, Mary McGuire, a former professor of mine at Carleton who taught me all about multimedia journalism, deserves some thanks too (even though she only gave me a B).

I’ve got a bunch of post ideas saved up from the summer when I was mulling over the whole blog idea so you might find that the posts are coming fast and furious (but with less Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. Sorry.) but they will slow down as the semester starts to roll along. Or, they might just end up getting shorter… remains to be seen.

The first series of posts will be some golf course critiques of the new spots I’ve managed to play out here in Eastern Ontario, away from my home in Toronto. I’ll be posting my journalism assignments here for your reading pleasure as the year continues as well, but the rest of the blog posts will be pretty sporadic.

That just about covers everything here! Again, quick thank you’s to Jeff Close for designing the site, my roommate Matt, the Three Brewers, the Four Horsemen, and my amazing girlfriend. Please let me know what you think of the site as it develops at: wstanley@connect.carleton.ca.
